Dear Families, Do you love to sing? Is there a lullaby your mom used to sing to you? Are there songs that you remember singing with your siblings or grandparents as a kid? Would you be willing to share a video or audio recording of one of those songs? Better yet, would you come in to teach me or a small group of students how to sing these songs from your heritage? I am currently planning a music unit to coincide with 1st grade's Neighbor to Neighbor unit, which explores our neighborhood and community. My desire is to represent our diverse school community through traditional and popular songs from some of our many countries of origin. However, it can be difficult to find children's music in the usual places for some of the nationalities found at our school. In particular, I'm having difficulty finding songs from Haiti and Cape Verde. It would be a huge help if you would be willing to teach me or a small group of students what you know! Thank you and keep singing! Mrs. Kimani
